The stacksize bug is still annoying. To survive the selftests, we'd have to limit the recursion depth to 13. But then, people trying the first recursive function would be disappointed if they can't even calculate fac(15)... Otoh, add-ons like py-gtk and py-wxwindows pull in dynamic libraries which require libpthread, so we have to cope with it somehow.
