The GnuCash development team proudly announces GnuCash 2.6.0,
the latest stable release of the GnuCash Free Accounting
Software. GnuCash Users can experience the following new features:
* Preferences have been migrated from GConf to GSettings. This
is a simpler and more robust backend which writes to the OS's
native prefs -- defaults on OS X and the Registry on
MSWindows -- and allows us to remove several troublesome
dependencies including GConf, ORBit, and DBus. The change
includes a migration script that will run at Gnucash startup.
* New date handling which allows GnuCash to use dates after March 2038.
* Guile-2 compatibility: GnuCash now requires either Guile-1.8
or Guile-2.0
* Documents outside of GnuCash, images of receipts for example,
can now be linked to transactions, with the facility of
opening them in the default application for the document
type.
* Cutsom Reports can now be saved without renaming the report,
and modifications can overwrite an existing report.
* The import assistant now finishes much more quickly after
assigning contra-accounts.
* GnuCash now requires Gtk+-2.24.0 and GLib-2.26.0. Most of the
dependencies on obsolete libraries have been removed; only
libgnomecanvas remains. Unfortunately the effort to rewrite
the register code to use GtkTreeModel wasn't completed in
time, so GnuCash is not on the cusp of converting to Gtk3.
* The Business Module has been substantially revamped,
including support for Credit Notes and import of customers
and vendors from a CSV file.
* The Num field in the register display is now optionally
per-split, so for example a check number can be entered for
the checking account split and an invoice number for the
expense account split.
* GnuCash can now open locked books read-only so that more than
one user can view a file. GnuCash still does not support
multiple simultaneous writers.
* By agreement of all authors, GnuCash is now licensed under
the GNU General Public License Version 2 or later rather than
simply Version 2. This allows derivative works to be licensed
under the GPL Version 3 if the author of such a work so
desires.
* Fixed more than 500 bugs.

2.5.10 - 15 December 2013
This is the eleventh and final release in the UNSTABLE 2.5 series.
It is the second beta release. Barring any surprises, we will release
a STABLE 2.6.0 on 29 December.
Changes since the last release have been entirely bug fixes
and translation updates, though not all bug fixes had
associated bug reports. Note that WebKit 1.2 is now tested
for in configure; it had been 1.0, but GnuCash wouldn't
actually compile with versions earlier than 1.1.5.

2.5.9 - 1 December 2013
This is the tenth release in the UNSTABLE 2.5 series.
It is the first beta release.
Barring any surprises, there will be one more beta release in
two weeks, followed by the release of 2.6.0 on 29 December.
Changes since the last release have principally been code
cleanup, including KVP storage in the SQL Backend, Python
testing in out-of-source builds, test failures when using
Guile-2, ensure that saved state (especially KVP) is deleted
along with the primary object, use the progress bar when
loading the PriceDB.
Translator note: We found it advisable to correct some typos
and to add two translatable strings "Bill Information" and
"Voucher Information".

2.5.8 - 17 November 2013
This is the ninth release in the UNSTABLE 2.5 series. This
release is the last alpha release.
String and feature freeze are now in effect: Only bug fixes
which have no effect on UI, API, or translatable strings
should be committed to trunk until after the release of
GnuCash 2.6, currently scheduled for 29 December 2013.
Translators: Please use the tarballs from this release to
prepare your translations.
New contributor Patrick has provided a beginning
implementation of linking attachments to transactions. This
is accessed through the Transaction menu and the transaction
context menu. In this initial version, linked files are
displayed in the default viewer for the file type. E.g., html
files will open in a browser and jpegs will open in the
default picture viewer.

2.5.7 - 3 November 2013
This is the eighth release in the UNSTABLE 2.5 series.
Register2 is now a configure option. Default builds,
including the Windows and Mac All-in-one packages, will use
only the old register. We've decided that it isn't ready for
general use and the principal author doesn't have time to
make it ready in time for a 2.6 release.
Frédéric Perrin has contributed a change to display currency
symbols whenever they are known and unambiguous.
Geert Janssens has cleaned up most of the issues from the
initial GSettings preference changes. There's a new
configure option, --with-xdg-data-dirs to overide the
environment and defaults if necessary.
Building Gnucash now requires Automake version 1.11 or later.
Configure will abort if --enable-ofx is set but no libofx
configuration files are found. Budget periods may no longer
set to values greater than the budget's num_periods, and the
budget options descriptions will wrap. Contributed by Robert
Ratliff.

2.5.6 - 7 October 2013
This is the seventh release in the UNSTABLE 2.5 series.
Geert Janssens has rewritten the preferences system to use
GSettings from GIO (GLib) instead of GConf. This is a simpler
and more robust backend which writes to the OS's native prefs
-- defaults on OS X and the Registry on MSWindows -- and
allows us to remove several troublesome dependencies
including GConf, ORBit, and DBus. The change includes a
migration script that will run at Gnucash startup.
WARNING: the saved settings in gconf are not (yet) migrated
to gsettings ! running gnucash as of this commit will start
you with default values for all preferences ! You can of
course change your preferences, your changes will be saved
properly in gsettings and restored when you restart
gnucash. But what has been set in GConf before will basically
be ignored.

2.5.3 - 7 July 2013
This is the fourth release in the UNSTABLE 2.5 series.
New Features:
Save and Save As for custom report templates (Geert Jansens)
Customized report settings can now be saved without renaming
the report, and updates saved directly replacing the previously
saved report or "saved as" to a new name.
It's now possible to post multiple invoices from the find
dialog. GnuCash was crashing if you searched for all unposted
invoices, selected two or more of them, and posted them.
This was because the list of invoices to be posted changed
while it was being processed. As part of fixing this the
prompt for post date, due date, etc. will only be given once,
not once per invoice.
Register2 work: Better commodity/currency handling, sanity checks
when converting TreePaths, Posted Dates now work like the old Register,
PostedDate is now recorded only as a date, with no time.

Robert Fewell has continued his work on the GtkTreeModel register.
It is now the default for account registers.
Geert Janssens has begun work on replacing the GConf configuration
management tool with the newer GSettings API from recent versions
of GLib.
Tom Lofts contributed the beginning of a RESTful Python API
to enable access to minimal account, invoice, and customer
information in a JSON format.
Christian Stimming fixed the very long wait time for the UI to
become responsive when running the import matcher.
Also some bug fixes, package upgrades, and minor improvements.
2.5.0 - 30 Mar 2013
The Gnucash Development Team is pleased to release Gnucash 2.5.0,
the first release of an unstable series leading to Gnucash 2.6.0.
This release is UNSTABLE and SHOULD NOT BE USED in production.
Robert Fewell has contributed a rewrite of the ledger
(Gnucash's primary interface window) to use the GtkTreeModel
(select "register 2" from the menu) as well as a new CSV
import/export facility for account trees.
Gnucash now requires Gtk+-2.24 and GLib-2.26. We've removed
most of the dependencies on libraries obsoleted by project
Ridley and will be in position to move to Gtk+-3.x once the
GtkTreeModel register window work is complete. This means
that Gnucash 2.5 requires Debian 6, RHEL 6, or one of the
more aggressive distributions like Ubuntu.
Gnucash now works with Guile-2.0.
The business module has been revamped and we introduce a new
feature, Credit Notes. It is now possible to import customers
and vendors from a CSV file as well.
The "Num" field is now optionally per-split rather than
per-transaction.
When opening a locked "book" one now has the option of
opening it read-only. Note that Gnucash is still a
single-user program and that the database backends are still
used only as a data store.
Gnucash is no longer subject to the "2038" bug, so that
30-year mortgages can now be entered correctly.
By agreement of all authors we have relicensed Gnucash to the
Gnu Public License Version 2 or later from just Version 2.

Protections Against Unauthorized Redistribution of Java Applications
Starting with 7u45, application developers can specify new JAR manifest file attributes:
Application-Name: This attribute provides a secure title for your RIA.
Caller-Allowable-Codebase: This attribute specifies the codebase/locations from which JavaScript is allowed to call Applet classes.
JavaScript to Java calls will be allowed without any security dialog prompt only if:
JAR is signed by a trusted CA, has the Caller-Allowable-Codebase manifest entry and JavaScript runs on the domain that matches it.
JAR is unsigned and JavaScript calls happens from the same domain as the JAR location.
The JavaScript to Java (LiveConnect) security dialog prompt is shown once per Applet classLoader instance.
Application-Library-Allowable-Codebase: If the JNLP file or HTML page is in a different location than the JAR file, the Application-Library-Allowable-Codebase attribute identifies the locations from which your RIA can be expected to be started.
If the attribute is not present or if the attribute and location do not match, then the location of the JNLP file or HTML page is displayed in the security prompt shown to the user.
Note that the RIA can still be started in any of the above cases.

Restore Security Prompts
A new button is available in the Java Control Panel (JCP) to clear previously remembered trust decisions. A trust decision occurs when the user has selected the Do not show this again option in a security prompt. To show prompts that were previously hidden, click Restore Security Prompts. When asked to confirm the selection, click Restore All. The next time an application is started, the security prompt for that application is shown.

TimeZone.setDefault Change
The java.util.TimeZone.setDefault(TimeZone) method has been changed to throw a SecurityException if the method is called by any code with which the security manager's checkPermission call denies PropertyPermission("user.timezone", "write"). The new system property jdk.util.TimeZone.allowSetDefault (a boolean) is provided so that the compatible behavior can be enabled. The property will be evaluated only once when the java.util.TimeZone class is loaded and initialized.

Deployment Rule Set
Deployment rule set allows a desktop administrator to control the level of Java client compatibility and default prompts across an organization.
New Security Warnings for Unsigned and Self-Signed Applications
New warnings are added in the dialogs for Unsigned and Self-Signed applications.
From the dialogs for Unsigned and Self-Signed applets, "Remember this decision" option has been removed. In addition, the previously remembered decisions for self-signed and unsigned applets will be ignored.

Local Applets return NULL for DocumentBase
Beginning with JDK 7u40, an applet's getDocumentBase() method will return NULL when the applet is running from the local file system.
If applet needs to load resource, here are the options:
If the resource is in the applet's JAR(s), the user should be able to load it with class ClassLoader getResoruceAsStream directly, without needing the codebase information.
If the resource is in an arbitrary location, which is not inside the applet's JAR(s), the user must have other ways to get to that location, since it is not part of the applet resource. For example, the user.home java system property, provided their applet has all-permissions.
JAXP Security Improvements
JDK 7u40 release contains Java API for XML Processing (JAXP) 1.5, which adds the ability to restrict the set of network protocols that may be used to fetch external resources. For more information, see JEP 185: JAXP 1.5: Restrict Fetching of External Resources.
Default x.509 Certificates Have Longer Key Length
Starting from 7u40, the use of x.509 certificates with RSA keys less than 1024 bits in length is restricted. This restriction is applied via the Java Security property, jdk.certpath.disabledAlgorithms. The default value of jdk.certpath.disabledAlgorithms is now as follows:
jdk.certpath.disabledAlgorithms=MD2, RSA keySize < 1024
In order to avoid the compatibility issue, users who use X.509 certificates with RSA keys less than 1024 bits, are recommended to update their certificates with stronger keys. As a workaround, at their own risk, users can adjust the key size to permit smaller key sizes through the security property jdk.certpath.disabledAlgorithms.

- FIX. Original implementation relied on NetBSD version of
mkdep(1). So, it didn't work on Linux, FreeBSD and others with
original BSD mkdep(1). Type of mkdep(1) is detected at
mk-configure build time. Report by Michael Crogan.
New variables LN, LN_S, MKDIR, RM, CLEANFILES_CMD, CLEANDIRS_CMD,
UNINSTALL, MAKEDEPEND, OBJTOP, CC_PREFIX, CXX_PREFIX were
introduced.
New variable NODEPS was introduced. With its help one can cut off
the dependency graph for particular targets.
New variable BMAKE_REQD was introduced.
New variable SRCTOP was introduced. With its help
"mkcmake -C subdir target" may work just like "mkcmake target-subdir".
New variables CFLAGS.dflt.${CC_TYPE} and CXXFLAGS.dflt.${CXX_TYPE}
were introduced. They default to -Qunused-arguments
for clang and clang++.
mkc.init.mk can be invoked by users directly for setting all
required variables and further checks (CC_TYPE, LD_TYPE, OPSYS etc.).

mkc.minitest.mk:

mkc_imp.inc.mk: fix for ${INCS} installation problem happened when

mkc_imp.info.mk:
- fix for MKINSTALL=no. "installdirs" unexpectedly created target
directories.
mkc.configure.mk:
- fix issue with MKC_CHECK_CUSTOM when ${.OBJDIR} != ${.CURDIR}
- MKC_CHECK_PROGS: PROG.<prog> is set even if full path was
specified. In addition existence and executability of the
specified file is always checked.
- fix for MKC_SOURCE_FUNCLIBS. Not all objects were cleaned
correctly by target "clean". Now objects are added to CLEANFILES
unconditionally.
- negative results for MKC_REQUIRE_* are not cached. This gives
users ability to fix the problem by changing the environment
and try again.
- MKC_CHECK_BUILTINS. Additional builtin checks were added:
"prog_mkdep" and "prog_nbmkdep" for original BSD mkdep(1) and
NetBSD version of mkdep(1) respectively.
mkc_imp.intexts.mk fixes:
- Targets "clean" and "cleandir" do not fail anymore if INTEXTS_REPLS
contains empty variables.
- Target "all" works correctly if INFILES or INSCRIPTS contain
files with directories.
mkc.sub{dir,prj}.mk:
- ${MAKEFLAGS} is passed to recursive ${MAKE}s.
- {nodeps-,subdir-,}dir:T are also targets, that is, one can also
use the last component of subdirectory as_a_part_of/as_a_whole
target. If you want to disable this, set SHORTPRJNAME to "no".
mkc_imp.subdir.mk was reimplemented using mkc_imp.subprj.mk

PNG: With libpng 1.6.X, avoid a crash while copying a PNG with a "known incorrect ICC profile". This crash could be used to cause denial of service.

Build: Fix cross-compilation for MinGW64 on Linux build machine.
Build: configure FreeType test no longer insists that <freetype/freetype.h> can be included.
CMS profile: Only delete the CMS transform if it is non-null. Fixes assersion observed when lcms returned a null profile and GraphicsMagick attempted to deallocate it.
Drawing: Improve error handling logic so that drawing returns quickly on pixel access errors rather than plowing on ahead. This avoids problems with SVGs which take seemingly forever to render.
Drawing via C/C++ APIs: BevelJoin no longer causes a MVG parsing error.

MIFF writer: PseudoClass format was written incorrectly for depth greater than 8.
MIFF writer: RLE compressed format used inverted alpha from the other subformats and contrary to the MIFF specification.
MIFF reader: Fixes Fixes to be able to read MIFF written by ImageMagick 6.X, including DirectClass grayscale images (except for RLE compressed).
Mosaic: Fixed unsigned underflow problem with -mosaic when page offset is negative and exceeds image width or height, resulting in assertions, out of memory errors, or pixel cache limit errors.
PDF: Consistently initialize Image page width and height to image width and height. While general to all of GraphicsMagick, this change is to assure that the PDF writer computes page dimensioning consistently. PDF page dimensioning was wrong if the image had been resized with -geometry "100%".
PAM: Fix MAXVAL scaling when reading PAM images. PAM was only working correctly for images with 256 or 64k levels.
PNM: PGM "P2" format writer wrote bad output for 8-bit depth.
PNG: With libpng 1.6.X, avoid a crash while copying a PNG with a "known incorrect ICC profile".
PNG: Q8 GM build now correctly reads 16-bit PNG files.
TIFF writer: Try to avoid writing more than 32k strips per image by increasing rows-per-strip since some programs fail to read images with more than 32k strips per image.

TTF font rendering: Improve FreeType rendering error logic so that rendering returns immediately on pixel access errors rather than plowing on ahead.
TTF font rendering: Support rendering UTF-8 up to 21-bit code points. Was only supporting 16-bit code points.
Wand API: DrawSetStrokeDashArray() / DrawGetStrokeDashArray(), fix failure to work properly due to this code path never being tested.
Windows Ghostscript: 64-bit GraphicsMagick no longer requires both 32-bit and 64-bit builds of Ghostscript to be installed in order to read Postscript and PDF formats.
XPM reader: Reported depth now depends on the colormap rather than always claiming to be 16-bit.

JPEG: Add support for writing 'XMP' profile.
PNM: As a simple non-standard extension to the standard PNM and PAM formats, support writing and reading 32-bit sample depth. Writing such files is only supported by the Q32 build although they may be read by any build.
