ns-2.35 Released on Nov 4, 2011
* Provide fixes to the Tmix traffic generator, mainly to the one-way
TCP implementation, but some changes to the Full-TCP version as well.
Tmix with one-way TCP now performs comparably to Tmix with Full-TCP (albeit
with longer running times and higher memory consumption). Includes
contributions from David Hayes and DongXia Xu at Swinburne and relevant
updates to the documentation and tests.
* Add Marcello Caleffi's Multi-path Dynamic Address RouTing (M-DART)
protocol.
* Add Sidney Doria's Datagram Congestion Control Protocol (DCCP)
implementation.
* Added the SYN_immediate_ack flag so that a DelAckSink agent will
immediately ACK the first (SYN) packet sent by a TcpAgent. The patch contains
changes to tcp-sink.{cc,h}, ns-default.tcl, and affected validation tests.
All validation tests that use the syn_ in TcpAgent were set to
SYN_immediate_ack=false except for the delayed test in test-suite-simple.tcl.
* During long simulations (30-60 minutes), ns would sometimes abort with the
message "TcpAgent: negative RTO!". The problem was that TcpAgent::t_backoff_
was overflowing and becoming negative, since it was doubled each time a
backoff was triggered but maxrto_ prevented the time between doublings from
growing beyond 60 seconds.
* This patch adds support for using one-way TcpAgents with the Tmix traffic
generator, which previously only worked with FullTcp agents.
* Protocol for Unified Multicasting Through Announcements (PUMA)
has been added. PUMA is a distributed, receiver initiated, mesh based
multicast routing protocol.
* A new SCTP patch from Nasif Ekiz and the University of Delaware team.
* added support for Non-Renegable Selective Acknowledgements (NR-SACK).
To enable NR-SACKs, set useNonRenegSacks_ tcl bindable variable to 1 at
both the data sender and the data receiver.
* Concurrent Multipath Transfer with Potentially Failed(CMT-PF) extension
is default now. To use CMT, set useCmtPF tcl bindable variable to 0
at the data sender.
* added new feature to support a limited size send buffer at the data
receiver. Send buffer size can be specified by setting initialSwnd_ tcl
bindable variable to desired value. By default, the variable is set to
0 which means there is no constraint on the send buffer.
* congestion window (cwnd) updates are now done as specified at Section 7.2.1,
7.2.2 and 7.2.3 of RFC4960. Also the number of missing reports to trigger
fast retransmits is reduced to three as specified in RFC4960.
* bug fix. A bug discovered by Eduardo Ribeiro and Igor Gavriloff regarding
to memory deallocation is fixed.
* new validation tests for NR-SACKs and limited send buffer size are added to
the test suite.
ns-2.34 Released on June 17, 2009
* bugfix for 802.11Ext model (from Felix-Schmidt-Eisenlohr and team)
* mac/wirelessPhyExt:
* the power monitor class is responsible to continously track the sum of all
reception power values of all frames arriving in parallel and of the noise
floor. In the earlier implementation this cumulated power was only decreased
in situations where no packet arrived. Otherwise, powers were always further
summed up, leading to a wrong setting of this variable, and in consequence,
a wrong behavior of physical packet reception calculations. Furthermore, the
busy/idle signalling was not correct.
* Add AOMDV (On-demand Multipath Distance Vector Routing in Ad Hoc Networks)
implementation from Marcello Caleffi
* Collection of bug fixes for 802.11Ext model (from Felix-Schmidt-Eisenlohr
and team)
* mac/mac-802.11Ext:
* feedback to higher layers on transmission failure: xmit_failure_data_ is
delivered when a unicast packet was finally not sent successfully- corrected
NAV update: in case a NAV is active and a new NAV is advertised an updated
only occurs in case the new NAV takes longer than the one already running
- bugfix: corrected backoff handling when 0 backoff slots are selected:-
bugfix: resolved memory leak on broadcast packet transmission- duplicate
suppression support: reactivate the feature of duplicate detection on MAC
layer as it was done in earlier versions
* code cleanup: removed TxTimer_t class
* bugfix: ACK frames: explicitly set basic modulation scheme
* mac/wirelessPhyExt:
* update of modulation table: new threshold values are taken for the different
modulation schemes due to newer measurements
* bugfix: resched() instead of sched() in PowerMonitor::expire()
* code cleanup: removed friend class PowerTimer
* code cleanup: updated comment in recordPowerLevel()
* new implementation of PowerMonitor (PowerTimer class now obsolete)
* clarification of CSThresh variable (see below)
* mac/channel.cc: for wirelessPhyExt only: correct calculation of distCST,
using PowerMonitorThresh_ as the critical borderline power and including
antenna gains.
* tools/ranvar.cc: - bugfix: resolved memory leak in Erlang distribution
* Bug fixes for 802.11 infrastructure code, posted by Ilango Purushothaman.
* Patches for better memory management - use standard C++ lists to maintain AP
and client tables, memory leaks fixed in AP scheduling queue
* Triggering of handoff in Ad-hoc mode - Bug reported by Mayur - Resolved by
adding an if condition for checking the 802.11 mode.
* Note: The following traces changed as a result of this, but were verified
by Ilango: ./test-all-wireless-infra ./test-all-wireless-infra-mobility
./test-all-wireless-shadowing ./test-all-wireless-lan-aodv

iodine lets you tunnel IPv4 data through a DNS server. This can be usable in
different situations where internet access is firewalled, but DNS queries are
allowed.
It runs on Linux, Mac OS X, FreeBSD, NetBSD and OpenBSD and needs a TUN/TAP
device. The bandwidth is assymetrical with limited upstream and up to 1 Mbit/s
downstream.
Compared to other DNS tunnel implementations, iodine offers:
* Higher performance: iodine uses the NULL type that allows the downstream
data to be sent without encoding. Each DNS reply can contain nearly a
kilobyte of payload data.
* Portability: iodine runs on many different UNIX-like systems. Tunnels can be
set up between two hosts no matter their endianness or operating system.
* Security: iodine uses challenge-response login secured by MD5 hash. It also
filters out any packets not coming from the IP and port used when logging
in.
* Less setup: iodine handles setting IP number on interfaces automatically,
and up to 8 users can share one server at the same time.

in pkgsrc).
Added BelowPath patterns, that match a path as well as all paths
below (convenient to use with nodeletion,update,creationpartial
preferences)
Added a fat preference that makes Unison use the right options
when one of the replica is on a FAT filesystem.
Allow prefer/force=newer even when not synchronizing modification
times. (The reconciler will not be aware of the modification time
of unchanged files, so the synchronization choices of Unison can
be different from when times=true, but the behavior remains sane:
changed files with the most recent modification time will be
propagated.)
Minor fixes and improvements:
Compare filenames up to decomposition in case sensitive mode when
one host is running MacOSX and the unicode preference is set to
true.
Rsync: somewhat faster compressor
Make Unicode the default on all architectures (it was only the
default when a Mac OS X or Windows machine was involved).

changelog:
aria2 1.16.0
============
Release Note
------------
This release adds SSL/TLS encryption support in RPC transport. The new
RPC method aria2.appendUri is added, which is a wrapper to
aria2.changeUri. The Content-Disposition parser is now RFC 6266
conformant. The resource leak in XmlParser, JSON and Bencode parser
was fixed. The uploaded data size calculation bug was fixed. For
MinGW32 build, files are now opened with read/write shared mode.
Changes
-------
* mingw32: Open file using _wsopen and added --enable-mmap support
I tried CreateFile but the subsequent ReadFile fails with Access
Denied if sparse file is read on NTFS. I mostly reverted previous
changes and use _wsopen with read/write share enabled instead of
CreateFile.
This change also includes --enable-mmap support for MinGW32
build. Memory mapped file may be useful for 64-bits OS and lots of
RAM. Currently, FlushViewOfFile is not called during the download,
so it is slightly vulnerable against sudden power loss. I found lots
of read when resuming download due to page fault. So for now it is
useful for the initial download. I recommend not to use
--file-allocation=prealloc with --enable-mmap for MinGW32, because
it triggers page faults even in the initial download. Anyway, the
option is experimental.
* Removed PO files and generated aria2.pot from repository
Currently, message translation is done at launchpad. All PO files
can be exported from there. The merge process from launchpad is done
when new release. First download export file from launchpad And use
import-po script to import PO files into po directory.
* Set F_GLOBAL_NOCACHE for Mac OS X
* Enabled TCP_NODELAY
* Don't use AC_FUNC_MMAP
Don't use AC_FUNC_MMAP becaue it fails on some platforms (e.g.,
OpenWRT) which have mmap and it works in the way we use in aria2.
Instead use mmap in AC_CHECK_FUNCS list.
* Added --force-save option.
--force-save option saves download with --save-session option even
if the download is completed or removed. This may be useful to save
BitTorrent seeding which is recognized as completed state. The
default value is false.
* Get the correct uploaded data size
Subtract msgHdrLen_ from writtenLength to get the uploaded data
size. Without this correction, the seeder assumes it has uploaded
more data than it actually has.
* Made --http-no-cache false by default
* Fixed memory leak in AsyncNameResolver
* Fixed resource leak in XmlParser and GenericParser
* Reset iostream format state
* gnutls: Added more status checking when verifying peer
* Content-Disposition parser conforming to RFC 6266.
RFC 2231 Continuation is not supported.
* Reworked download/upload statistics calculation
The old implementation calculates download/upload statistics for a
RequestGroup by summing up all PeerStat objects. For global
statistics, those are summed together. This clearly incurs runtime
penalty and we introduced some kind of caching which updates
statistics every 250ms but it did not work right.
This change removes all these aggregation code, and instead makes
RequestGroup and RequestGroupMan objects hold NetStat object and
download/upload bytes are directly calculated by thier own NetStat.
This is far more simplar than the old way and less runtime penalty
and brings more accuracy.
* Added --rpc-save-upload-metadata option
If true is given, which is default, save the uploaded torrent or
metalink metadata in the directory specified by --dir option. The
filename consists of SHA1-hash hex string of metadata plus
extension. For torrent, the extension is '.torrent'. For metalink,
it is '.meta4'. If false is given to this option, the downloads
added by aria2.addTorrent or aria2.addMetalink will not be saved by
--save-session option.
* Perform SSL/TLS handshake after checking whether connection is established
* Fixed bug that --enable-mmap won't work if MultiDiskAdaptor is used
* RPC over SSL/TLS transport
To enable RPC over SSL/TLS, specify server certificate and private
key using --rpc-certificate and --rpc-private-key options and enable
--rpc-secure option. After the encryption is enabled, use https and
wss scheme to access RPC server.
* aria2rpc: Added appendUri command
This command calls aria2.changeUri(GID, fileIndex, [], [URI,...])
internally.
* Don't send Proxy-Connection header field
* Don't set SNI hostname if it does not include "." for GNUTLS
* Disable SSL/TLS compression with OpenSSL
* Pause download even if download is completed
This allows to pause and unpause BitTorrent seed.
* Use execlp() instead of execl()

with a minor edit.
N.B.: a minority of packages uses 'gssapi' as the option name. We should
decide on one option name and fix all packages to use the same, with
notification of the users and a transition mechanism. (Do we support, or
intend to support, any GSSAPI mechanisms other than Kerberos? In parallel?)

GStreamer is a library that allows the construction of graphs of
media-handling components, ranging from simple Ogg/Vorbis playback to
complex audio (mixing) and video (non-linear editing) processing.
Applications can take advantage of advances in codec and filter technology
transparently. Developers can add new codecs and filters by writing a
simple plugin with a clean, generic interface.
GStreamer is released under the LGPL.
This package is part of the 'bad' plugins for GStreamer. It provides a
plugin for "rtmp".

from the announcement:
Tor 0.2.3.25, the first stable release in the 0.2.3 branch, features
significantly reduced directory overhead (via microdescriptors),
enormous crypto performance improvements for fast relays on new
enough hardware, a new v3 TLS handshake protocol that can better
resist fingerprinting, support for protocol obfuscation plugins (aka
pluggable transports), better scalability for hidden services, IPv6
support for bridges, performance improvements like allowing clients
to skip the first round-trip on the circuit ("optimistic data") and
refilling token buckets more often, a new "stream isolation" design
to isolate different applications on different circuits, and many
stability, security, and privacy fixes.

Portable network interface information.
netifaces provides a (hopefully portable-ish) way for Python
programmers to get access to a list of the network interfaces on
the local machine, and to obtain the addresses of those network
interfaces.
